Streamline Your Week: Paperwork

We all know that staying organized 24/7 is the best way to never miss a bill payment, never have an overdue library book, never experience rage when you accidentally let a FREE product coupon expire and never feel embarrassed when you have to call the bride to RSVP three days before the wedding because you forgot to mail your card in.  Yes, well, being perfect would be so dull.

Next Sunday during nap time, halftime or me-time, spend a few minutes with your planner/calendar, your pile of papers and yourself.  Go through your schedule for the next week, day-by-day and event-by-event.  Pull out important papers, look at due dates and write yourself reminder notes.  See the following list for papers to check each Sunday:
  • Bills:  Pay all bills that are due within the next five to seven days.
  • Checkbook:  Write down any missing check numbers and amounts while still relatively fresh in your mind.
  • Thank you Cards:  Have you received any gifts, special treats or favors in the past week which deserve a thank you card?  If so, send it out now.
  • RSVP:  Look to see if you have any Facebook invites, Evites, wedding reception or other party  invites that need an RSVP this week.
  • School:  Do you need to bring in snack for your preschooler's class?  Are there permission slips that need turned in?  Is lunch money due?
  • Work:  Finally remember to  bring in your new direct deposit form and voided check.  Put all of your receipts in an envelope so you can fill out your expense report with ease.
  • Shopping:  If you have plans to do some shopping, make sure you pack all your loose coupons, coupon folder, gift cards, lists and loyalty cards.  Don't forget your stack of inserts if you plan to ad-match.
  • Appointments:  As you go through your schedule, you will be reminded of upcoming appointments.  Do you need to fill out and bring a new patient packet?  Do you have your insurance cards?  Do you have a list of questions ready for the doctor?
  • Rebates:  Ideally you would send rebates out seconds after you get home from the store.  If not, make sure you gather all proof of purchases, receipts and forms and get it in the mail now.
  • Checks:  People do not often have to be reminded to deposit checks, but it is worth mentioning, especially if you can combine a trip to the bank with other errands.
  • Library Books:  Consult that long receipt to ensure you get your books back to the library or renewed online on time.
