ThredUP: Inexpensive Halloween Costumes

Here's a thought for Halloween Costumes, join thredUP, a kids clothing swap.  I have not actually participated in a swap, but I have seen it work successfully for someone.  Here is my interpretation of how it works:

  • Go here to get started.  You enter your email address and other pertinent information and then browse the boxes.  You can even search buy key word, for example, "Halloween".  I just checked and there were 124 boxes with Halloween costumes in them.  Your cost is just $5 plus $10.95 shipping.  Your first box is free, though, so it will only be $10.95 the first time.
  • You have to list your own box of what they call "preloved" clothing and toys.  When listing your box, you will have to write a brief description of what is inside the box.
  • When someone picks your box, you send it free of charge because the buyer pays shipping.  Boxes, postage and even a scheduled pick up are provided!  So, that means no special trips to the post office.
  • If you have more questions, I feel like the ThredUP site is very well laid out with a great FAQ page.
Like I said, Kate and I haven't tried this before, but I got the idea from an mom's email group that I am a part of.  This would be great if you don't regularly get clothes from friends or don't have someone you already swap with.  It is also very environmentally friendly.  If you give it a try, let us know what you think!
