Frugal Quick Tip: Inexpensive Breakfast

Breakfast cereal is exorbitantly priced, and it is also one of my family's favorite food groups.  The combination of those two facts equals havoc on my grocery budget.  Therefore, we keep cereal on hand for mornings when we are running late or to enjoy as a snack.  For the day-to-day breakfast grind, we use oatmeal.

Meijer sells a 42 ounce container of quick oats for $1.99.  This container lasts us approximately a week.  We use milk and cinnamon to make the oatmeal.  Also, I like to top it with fresh or frozen fruit instead of the brown sugar for added health benefits.  Ideally, I use my prepared-at-home frozen berries that I got inexpensively by ad-matching at Walmart while they were in season over the summer.  Well, that supply is long gone.  The good news is I found a 12 ounce bag of (product of the USA) unsweetened blueberries at Target for $3.34.  I just top each person's oatmeal with 6 or 7 blueberries and call it a morning!
