Frugal Quick Tip: Replace Jelly with Cinnamon
The old stand-by PB&J constitutes the lunch de jour...every day. At least for the girls.. The girls think peanut butter and jelly is the absolute best mid-day food ever invented. I let them eat away their naivete because it is cheap and relatively healthy.
Well, relatively healthy except for the slathering (in actuality it is more of a light dusting) of high-fructose corn syrup, disguised as grape jelly, over their wheat bread. One of my 2012 New Year's resolutions was to find a jelly substitute.
Honey was the first thing that came to mind. The girls love it. But, honey is a lot more expensive than jelly.
Then, on December 28, 2012 (just under the deadline for completing my 2012 resolutions), it came to me...cinnamon! It doesn't make peanut butter less sticky like jelly does, but I serve it with as much milk or water as they want!
