Are you concerned about your child becoming involved in “risky” behaviors, such as alcohol and drug abuse, sexual activity, and violence? Would you like your child grow up to be a healthy, caring, responsible adult? Come and learn about the 40 DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS, building blocks of healthy youth development. More is better! The more ASSETS young people have, the more likely they are to engage in positive behaviors and less likely to engage in “risky” behaviors. You can build ASSETS in your kids!

Say Yes to No—Teaching Kids Self-Discipline

MONDAY, AUGUST 4

Research indicates a strong link between self-discipline and success in life. But what does self-discipline look like and how do we teach it? Based on the book “No: Why Kids of All Ages Need to Hear It and Ways Parents Can Say It,” this class will address setting boundaries and expectations for children and using “NO” to build self-discipline.

Many kids spend more time on “screens” than any other activity (even sleeping!) Should parents be concerned? How does electronic media effect brain development? Is there a daily recommended allowance for screen-time? What do those TV, movie and video game ratings mean? Discussion will include all these topics and more!
