Feng shui 101 was not a general elective I took while at IU. I don't know a lot about decorating or colors. The only thing I do know is that my family room does not exactly give off a positive chi when the boxes of Legos and kitchen set stuff come out. Start your week with a mental calm by dedicating 30 minutes before kick-off to straightening your house. I'm not asking for deep cleaning...just a little decluttering. Here are some ideas to help get the job done.
- Set the timer.
- If you are dreading the seemingly insurmountable task ahead, just set the time clock for 15 minutes. One of two things will happen. Either you will at least get 15 minutes of cleaning done or you be energized by your progress and willingly keep forging ahead.
- Give yourself a reward.
- Did I saw reward? For putting my own laundry away? I agree, it is a sad state of affairs if I must bribe myself to do household chores. But if an adult beverage, coffee with extra cream or a sweet treat becomes the proverbial carrot, so be it. Too bad chocolate has far more calories than vegetables.
- Have everyone help.
- I'm pretty sure your significant other and kids help make the mess, so enlist them to help clean it up. Just think, give each of your three children two rooms to declutter and you already have 6 fewer rooms to clean.
- Clean your favorite junk spots.
- My two favorite places to store my stuff in transition are the little kitchen desk (that is the picture I really should have put up top) and my dresser. Things just land there and piles begin to form. If I literally only have a few minutes to tidy up, taking care of those two problem areas have the most impact on my chi.
