One of our very loyal and valued readers, Jeremy, sent us a link about saving/not losing money when you buy your meat products.
You can go here to view it. Essentially, it can be summarized by the following few points:
- Meat mark-downs are usually done during the morning hours at supermarkets. If you want to catch the marked-down meat, try shopping in the early afternoon.
- If you notice that a selection is nearing it's sell by date and it hasn't been marked down, don't be afraid to speak up and ask the manager of the area if it can be marked down. My dear friend Leslie does this for everything, not just produce. She is the nicest person you will ever know AND, she gets things really inexpensively.
- Make sure meat is the last thing you put in your cart. This way it stays at optimum temperature as long as possible.
- If it is going to be a bit before your meat can make it home to the fridge/freezer, bring along a cooler. This is especially prudent in the warmer months of the year.
