Did you know that there are two Aunt Millie's Bread Thrift Stores in Fort Wayne?
The above picture contains just some of my finds. The thrift stores carry product that is overstock , nearing its expiration date (that is still delicious and soft) at a very reduced price. We eat about a half of a loaf of bread a day, so I am so happy to have access to such quality, tasty and inexpensive bread.
Think it can't get any better? Well, both locations (click here for addresses and phone numbers) offer 'Monday Madness' where all buns and regular bread are on sale for $.65. The organic and 'Hearth' breads are on sale for $.95. All other items are regular price. Tuesday through Saturday, regular bread is $0.89.
Items other than loaves of bread include English muffins, pita breads, cinnamon bread, and cookies, to name a few. You want bring your own shopping bags and they do accept credit cards. Hours at the Pearl Street location are from 9 to 5:30 M-F and the Kraft Parkway location is open 8 to 6 M-F and 9-4 on Saturdays.
Neither of these locations are very close to my house or in a route that I travel frequently, so I buy lots and freeze what won't be used shortly. You could also consider taking turns with a friend. Either way, the trip is really worth the savings.
Also, while poking around Aunt Millie's website, I discovered that they have several printable coupons available on their site. I don't think these are accepted at the thrift store, but they will work for the bread sold in our local groceries.
