There are lots of ways to save money while Christmas shopping but it came to me recently that I could really'save' my money this year and finally use up the little bits on those gift cards I have in my file thingy.
Maybe I am the only one, but I have several (ok, more than several) gift cards with some amount of value on them. I decided this was the time to be rid of them. I got started by pulling them out and making a list with corresponding values. I am ashamed to say that I discovered that one of them had lost its value by sitting in there for the "perfect" time to use it.
It is possible that you could find better 'deals' if you didn't use these but you also don't want to lose anymore money by letting them sit there. So, I challenge you to examine your gift card stash and use them up. It's free money just waiting to be spent. I just have to figure out how to buy a reasonable teacher's gift with a Bed Bath and Beyond, Victoria's Secret and Kirkland's gift certificates...
P.S. If you have one that you don't really think you will ever spend, think about selling it on craigslist or ebay. People really do that! You can also score gift cards there for far less than face value.
