Money Saving "Green" Cleaning Tips

·         Instead of harmful, expensive cleaners, try a small amount of vinegar (good germicide) and hot water on hard floors.  You can also wear gloves so you can make the water a higher temperature.
·         Use small amounts of dish soap for toilets.  Use a toilet brush from the dollar store.
·         Cut up old shirts and towels and use them as rags instead of paper towels.  These can be washed and used again.  This also saves on waste.
·         Try baking soda and vinegar for showers and tubs.  This is reminiscent of a grade school science experiment, but the fine particles of baking soda are great for scrubbing off soap scum.  FYI… this will bubble when you mix the two ingredients.
·         Another trick that I like to use is a magic eraser for the tubs and showers.  The store brand works fine as well.  This is great for stubborn stains at the bottom of fiberglass tubs.
·          I am convinced that every family has some sort of malady that they get often, my sister’s family gets bronchitis, for some it’s strep and for us it’s vomit.  If there is vomit to be had in a 5 mile radius, we will have it.  That being said, I have a fool proof way to clean vomit out of carpets.  First, clean all of the chunks and major debris up (ewww… I know).  Next, soak with water to dilute as much of it out as possible.  After this, soak up water with a clean towel.  Finally, sprinkle (liberally) baking soda all over the spot.  Cover with a towel and leave until dry.  At this time, you can pick up the hardened pieces of baking soda and then vacuum the fine powder up.   This works like a charm, I swear.
·         The nice thing about being frugal is that it also often ties in with being “green”  --less waste often means less $$$.
