Mark your calendars for the start of the summer reading program. This year the program will. run from June 6 through July 29. The theme this year is One World, Many Stories. It appears there are going to be lots of activities and events through out the summer at different branches. However, the prizes don't look quite as enticing this year. There is no Tin Caps ticket voucher like there has been in past years. Kids do get a book at the completion of the program, though. Obviously, promoting early literacy is the point of the program, but the baseball tickets were always a hit in our house.

Half Price Books on Coliseum Blvd. also does a summer reading program. In years past, it's read at least 15 minutes each day for 5 days (I think) and recieve a gift card for $3 each week you bring back in the log. My son actually enjoys this one a little more than the library one- 1. not so many "levels" to reach and 2. can buy more books, or other things like cds, dvds, etc. With their clearance section of $1 books, he usually walks out w/ 3 per week, so it's a great stock up time!
